E-mail: elane.rafaela@hotmail.com The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of antimicrobial residues in raw milk produced in farms and of the principle active antimicrobial use in dairy cattle located in microregion of Garanhuns, Pernambuco. We analyzed 84 samples collected in expansion tanks or drums, coming from 84 herds in 19 counties. In each farm received a questionnaire. The survey of antimicrobials in milk was performed with Charm Cowside Kit II®. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. It was found that 12 (14.29%) milk samples were positive. The only variable significantly associated with the presence of antimicrobial residues in milk was the type of milking (p=0.038) with a predominance of positive results in the technique of milking the foot. We conclude that the presence of antimicrobial residues in raw milk was detected in over 50% of the municipalities of the region of Garanhuns. The drugs frequently used in dairy cattle in the region belong to tetracyclines and aminoglycosides.
