E-mail: coutinholtc@gmail.com The rupture of the third fibular muscle in bovines is an uncommon occurrence, with few reports on this condition in the veterinary literature. The aim of the present study was to report the occurrence and clinical findings of third fibular muscle rupture in a bovine with a history of lameness of no apparent cause, according to the owner’s report. The animal was an adult mixed-breed cow with a history of six births raised in a semi-extensive system. The clinical exam revealed lameness predominantly due to elevation of the right hind leg, with instability during locomotion and dragging of the affected hoof on the ground. Upon elevating the affected leg, a straight line was observed, with a 90º angle formed between the femur and knee, with the calcaneal tendon appearing “loose”. Based on the findings, the diagnosis was of a rupture of the third fibular muscle.
